Ideally, each of your teeth should have a specific shape and orientation that matches its partner in your bite pattern. However, genetics, the loss of a primary tooth to tooth decay, and other factors can sometimes cause a tooth to emerge from the gums with an improper shape. Without professional treatment this tooth could eventually fracture, damage another tooth or contribute to the loss of enamel. Sometimes, a misshapen tooth can also affect the appearance of your smile.

In some of these cases our dentist, Dr. Russel R. Jacinto can replace the tooth’s enamel layer with a porcelain dental crown. This treatment process starts with the dentist numbing the tooth and removing the original enamel layer. The underlying dentin will eventually serve as an anchoring abutment for a porcelain dental crown. An impression will be created of the abutment as well as any related teeth. The impression will be used by a dental lab where the crown will be created from dental grade porcelain. This special material which can be shaded to perfectly match the tooth enamel of the neighboring teeth. You will need to return to see Dr. Russel R. Jacinto when your crown is ready. Then she will use a strong dental adhesive to secure it to the abutment.
